Recognition for Erlangen Palliative Medicine: Sedpall sets new standards!

The research work "From anxiolysis to deep continuous sedation - the development of a recommendation for sedation for sedation in the specialized palliative care (SEDPALL)" at the 15th Congress of the German Society for Palliative Medicine e. V. in Aachen won the recognition and promotional award for science in palliative care. The Team around Prof. Dr. Christoph Ostgathe from the University Hospital Erlangen received prize money of 6,000 euros for his excellent performance. In addition to Eastern Gathe, PD Dr. Carsten Klein and PD Dr. Dr. Maria Heckel involved in this important work. In addition, two scientists from the Erlangen Palliative Medicine team, Manuela Schneider and Saskia Kauzner, were awarded a poster price of 500 euros.

The recommendation for action "Sedpall" should offer clear guidelines for sedation in palliative care in order to support patients in relieving unbearable symptoms such as pain and anxiety. The approach of the sedation is always pursued in close coordination with those affected and their relatives in order to meet the individual needs. In the follow -up study "ISEDPALL", the researchers also examine how practical aids can improve the use of sedative medication in specialized palliative care.
