In 2024,

Augsburg is the home of some of the happiest people in Germany, according to the current lucky atlas. In this study of the South German treasurer (SKL), the city landed in seventh place, while the Bavarian capital of Munich crashed to 24th place with a lucky index of 6.75 points. Kassel takes first place with 7.38 points, followed by Erfurt and Aachen. Overall, life satisfaction and 45 objective factors such as income and infrastructure are assessed in the 40 largest cities in Germany.

The SKL determined the results through surveys under 25,557 inhabitants between 2021 and 2024. Augsburg achieved the best result among the Bavarian cities with 7.20 points, while Nuremberg ends up with 6.56 points on the 33rd place in the ranking. It is noteworthy that people in cities with a family and safe living environment tend to be more satisfied, regardless of their economic conditions, as the SKL explains.
