Aachen's diocese reform: new plans for 44 parishes by 2028
"Aachen diocese reform: new structural plans for the future"
The planned restructuring of the diocese of Aachen is experienced by an important realignment. Instead of forming eight large parishes by 2028, it is now being postponed indefinitely. After intensive consultations, the diocese decided to merge the existing 326 parishes to 44 by 2028, which will then be developed in the long term into eight parishes.
Eigher Ecumenical Dreilang for the Community Work
The number of 44 new parishes is now based on the planned 44 ecumenical triads, which are central to the future of community work. These structures are to be established by January 1, 2025 to ensure effective and contemporary pastoral care. The third level of the restructuring that affects the assets should also be completed by January 1, 2028 at the latest. Parishes are merged into legal bodies within the ecumenical triads to create a common basis for future work.
Bishop emphasizes participation of the municipalities
The decision to reform was made by the Aachen Synodal Circle in May 2022, despite concerns and criticism from some municipalities. Bishop of this rejected allegations that the reorganization was made without sufficient participation by the municipalities. He emphasized that the regions and parishes were actively involved in the discussion process in order to jointly develop a sustainable solution.
