German auto industry in the crisis: China in the fast lane!
The German automotive industry is on the abyss! BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen have lost the connection to two central megatrends, battery and software development. Achim Kampker, an expert at RWTH Aachen, criticizes that the latest know-how can now be found in China. He warns of a deep change that could not only lead to a "cleaning thunderstorm", but also to a massive job loss in the supplier industry. "We have to dress warmly," said Kampker, because the industry is facing enormous change.
The Bavarian Business Delegation, led by Minister Hubert Aiwanger, is currently in China to discover the innovative strength of local automobile manufacturers such as Li Auto and BYD. Kampker sees these companies as serious competitors who have overtaken the German auto industry in many areas. The expert calls for a rethink of the German car manufacturers because the country lags behind in the development of electric vehicles and software. Without a basic U -turn, it is becoming increasingly difficult for German brands to survive in international competition, he warns.
