German versatility national team in fourth place at the Chio in Aachen: home success for Julia Krajewski
German Chio team delights the fans
despite fourth placeOn the penultimate day of the Chio in Aachen, the German national event was not able to compete with their top pairs because they were spared due to the upcoming Olympic Games. Nevertheless, the team disappointed and only ended up in fourth place. The Nations Prize went to the Equipe from Great Britain, followed by the teams in the USA and Ireland.
To comfort the fans, there was still a home success in the individual competition. Julia Krajewski led the field with Nickel and despite a little mishap, she managed to win. Unfortunately, her horse had lost a horseshoe early on, which she noticed during the ride. Calvin Böckmann from Warendorf came in second place with The Phantom of the Opera in front of the Britin Laura Collett with Dacapo.
Michael Jung consciously decided against a competition in the field, even though he was in the lead after the dressage and jumping with chipmunk. The Olympic champion from Horb is nominated for Paris and only used the exams on Friday as training. Jung declared his decision not to compete with the focus on the big goal in Paris: "It would have been nice to win here, but we focus on the main goal."
The tactics were determined in consultation with national coach Peter Thomsen. Sandra Aufarth with Viamant and Christoph Wahler with Carjanan also stopped after the sixteenth obstacle to protect their horses for the upcoming competitions. Despite fourth place, the German team was still able to inspire the audience with great performances.
