Discovery of textile history in the documentation center Glossy
The Medienhaus Aachen enables its members of the Freundeskreis a variety of exciting excursions, including an exclusive leadership in the Documentation Center Glossy Material in Heinsberg-Bubbruch. Jakob Wöllenweber, Chairman of the Industrial Park Oberbruch Association, welcomed the participants to a souvenir photo in front of the former logo of the United Glossy Tabriken AG. A special attraction was the original clock from the factory, where Bernd Gossel from Hürtgenwald was enthusiastic.
In the lecture room of the center, Jakob Wöllenweber gave visitors an insight into the company's history of Glossy and presented an informative video documentation. The development of the company from 1891 to 1965 was shown, with the circumstances of the time being emphasized without an Internet and cell phone.
The exhibition impressed the guests with the variety of textile fibers once produced in Oberbruch. Jakob Wöllenweber patiently answered all questions and led the participants through the history of the glossy materials, from the production of glow threads to the world-famous brands Perlon and Diolen.
A special highlight was the representation of the company logo with the Bergisches Löwen and information on the high proportion of women in employees, especially in quality control. The guests admired the textile image made of copper silk and were fascinated by the products on display.
After an informative tour of the documentation center, the event ended with a view of future exhibitions on guest workers and National Socialism. The participants were enthusiastic about the new knowledge that they had gained about the textile history of glossy material and were already planning further visits to deal even more intensively with the history of the company.
