Young heroes: Aachen students save life at the fitness drama!

In the Aachen town hall, an important honorary event took place on September 25, 2024 as part of the week of the revival. People who have saved life through their courageous effort were honored under the motto "Honor 2024 and Perspectives of the Initiative". The medical students Luisa Bormann and Marijan Balters, who saved his life in the gym in November 2023, were particularly emphasized. The latter had suffered a cardiovascular arrest, but the two first aiders reacted quickly and successfully by reanimating him.

It is impressive that Luisa and Marijan had no emergency medical experience in their efforts and could only fall back on their freshly learned knowledge. "A sudden cardiac arrest can affect everyone and requires quick action," emphasizes Dr. Mark Pitsch from the University Hospital RWTH Aachen. The case illustrates the importance of first aid training and how crucial minutes can determine life and death. Following the award, students from the St. Leonhard municipal high school were also trained in life -saving measures to strengthen their practical skills and convey life -saving knowledge.
