New connection with the three -country train: RE 18 now also starts Belgium - this is how the route works

improved rail connection from NRW to Belgium opens up new opportunities for travelers

The start of the long -awaited “three -country train” marks an important milestone in international rail traffic. This new regional line not only connects North Rhine-Westphalia with the Netherlands, but now also leads to Belgium.

The expansion of the route network offers travelers from the region the opportunity to get from Aachen to Liège. With the "RE 18" commuters and tourists can now easily reach the Belgian city.

diverse ticket options for the new rail connection

To make it easier to use the new train connection, the Aachen Verkehrsverbund (AVV) offers a variety of ticket options. The "Euregioticket" enables travelers to use almost all bus and rail lines in the Euregio-Maas-Rhein for a whole day. For only 21.70 euros, two adults and up to three children under the age of 12 can acquire this flexible ticket on weekends and public holidays.

For travelers who are only planning a single trip, Dutch single tickets are also available. Although the exact prices are not available online, you can expect around 12 euros for the route to Maastricht. Alternatively, other ticket options are also available for individual sections of the rail connection.

Outlook for future train connections from NRW to the Netherlands

The opening of the new rail connection to Belgium only marks the beginning of a major initiative to strengthen international train traffic. Further improvements will be planned in the coming years, including a new express train line from Aachen to Eindhoven by the end of 2024. In the future, connections from the Ruhr area to Eindhoven and a potential route from Oberhausen to Rotterdam should also be realized by Flixtrain.

The continuous expansion of the rail network shows the growing commitment to sustainable and efficient traffic solutions in the region. The improved connection offers travelers an attractive alternative to private transport and contributes to strengthening cross -border cooperation.
