traffic safety in focus: speed measurements in Aachen-Kornelimünster and Eschweiler-Dürwiss

Aachen/Eschweiler (ots) - The Aachen police will soon began again with speed measurements in areas that are classified as dangerous by citizens. This initiative helps to increase the safety in road traffic and shows the importance of cooperation between the population and the police.

residents provide more attention

In Romerichstraße in Aachen-Kornelimünster, the residents have repeatedly pointed out speed crossing. These information is crucial because they help the police identify dangerous bodies. Already in March the police reported on an incident in which a 27-year-old driver was stopped in a 30s zone at 111 km/h (see our report from 26.03.24).

renewed speed overrun

In the latest measurements on July 23, 2024, seven speed violations were registered within three hours, among which five were punished with warning money and two as administrative offenses. This confirms that the problem continues to exist and shows the need for regular controls.

High violations on Alsdorfer Straße

The results of Alsdorfer Straße in Eschweiler were particularly alarming, where a total of 91 road users exceeded the permissible top speed of 70 km/h within five hours. There were 72 violations in the warning area, while 19 drivers have to expect a fine. An abnormality was a vehicle that exceeded the speed by an impressive 41 km/h, followed by another three violations over 30 km/h.

collaboration for more security

The Aachen police are planning to continue to carry out speed measurements at irregular intervals, especially in areas reported by the residents. This collaboration is essential to raise awareness of speed overrun and increase traffic safety. Citizens are encouraged to report areas to the police who, in their opinion, should be particularly controlled.

conclusion: responsibility of the citizens

The police measures are a gratifying sign of active and responsible action in road traffic, which is also supported by the civilian population. Safe traffic routing is not only the task of the police, but also requires the commitment of the local people. Only together can it be possible to sustainably improve security on the streets.
