A pioneering new construction project is being implemented in Aachen-Ailendorf: On July 31st, there was the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new daycare center in the residential area. This facility will be the first in Aachen, which is built in full wooden massage construction and receives a certificate for sustainable construction. The planned building is built with innovative materials, including ungulgent solid wood. These materials are not only sustainable, but also promote reusability and recyclability. The technical managing director of the urban building management, Klaus Schavan, describes the project as a paradigm shift towards "building with a future". The use of photovoltaic systems and interlocking ventilation systems aim for high energy efficiency, which should also reduce operating costs in the long term.

The design of the new daycare center offers space for up to 80 children with different group rooms, which are designed for the needs of the under-three-year-old and over-three-year-olds. The spatial arrangement promotes free and creative development of the children. An environment is created on a net space of 1,179 square meters in which children can play, learn and develop. The outdoor area is equipped with a wide range of play options that promote playing and discovering outdoors.

The realization of the Kita Breibende is the result of close cooperation between different city committees. Hilde Scheidt, chair of the Children's and Youth Committee, emphasizes that the joint efforts of all political groups aim to improve the support offers. District Mayor Elke Eschweiler and Heinrich Brötz, the deputy for education, youth and culture, support the project because it covers the increasing need for childcare places in the growing community.

The city of Aachen plans to open the new daycare center in spring 2026.
