Laser measurements in Jagstzell: Less speed, more traffic safety
The area of tension between traffic safety and speed controls is the focus of the current speed week in Baden-Württemberg. The aim of this nationwide initiative is to raise awareness of compliance with speed limits and thus increase traffic safety on the streets.
Controls to improve traffic safety
The police carried out targeted speed controls in several cities last week to avoid dangerous traffic situations. It is particularly important in accident zones and long, straight roads that drivers adhere to the speed limits. The deputy head of office Kay Bermanseder explains that these actions also make a sensitization of drivers to the potential dangers of driving too fast.
The destination of the controls: Schweighausen
Among other things, the entrance to Schweighausen was selected in order to carry out targeted laser measurements. Police chief Benjamin Blessing and his team were prepared to stop traffic offices that exceed the permitted speed. However, it turned out that the drivers mostly drove prudently and adhered to the rules.
Presence of the police often works wonders
The simple sight of a patrol car often has a significant impact on the behavior of road users. Many drivers who consciously pay attention to the speed limits perceive control and adapt their driving behavior accordingly. Even without electronic measuring devices, the presence of the police can have a positive effect on the traffic discipline.
The reality of speed controls
Overall, the results of the Speed Week were rather gratifying. Only 20 vehicles were stopped by the Ellwang police officers due to the high speed measurements. This number is low compared to other weeks, which explains Bermanseder by the fact that the public and the drivers have been increasingly made aware of the topic.
Fairness and transparency in speed measurements
When selecting the control locations, attention is paid to fairness. Measurements are often only carried out according to the second speed limit sign in order to take into account any inattentiveness of the drivers. The officials must ensure that the measurements take place under ideal conditions to prevent legal disputes.
FAZIT: A successful use for more security
The officials ended their commitment with a track record: no significant speed overrun and an empty measurement protocol. This result illustrates that the measures of the police and the associated sensitization of the drivers bear fruit. Overall, the message remains clear: the aim of the controls is to make the streets safer for all road users.
