Customs controls at the end of the holiday: 205,000 euros discovered in gold jewelry

Aalen/Ulm - the return from vacation can turn out to be expensive for many travelers, especially when it comes to importing souvenirs. In the past two weeks, customs officials on the A8 and A7 motorways have discovered gold jewelry with a total value of fabulous 205,000 euros during controls from returning holidaymakers. These finds are not only a burden for travelers, but also raise questions about monitoring and compliance with customs regulations.

The controls that have been carried out since August 20 were able to track down more than just a few precious pieces of jewelry. Accompanied by special control units and with the help of modern techniques such as a mobile X -ray device that fulfills similar functions such as luggage scanners at the airport, the customs officers have found a wide range of unauthorized goods.

exciting finds for customs controls

In the first week, the officials secured 157 pieces of gold jewelry, including chains, bracelets, rings and gold coins, with the focus on goods from Turkey. In addition, 19 illegal weapons, including a push ring and an electric shocker stare as a flashlight, and 15,120 smuggled cigarettes were found. Such finds are not only a sign of the challenges of customs system, but also an indication of the widespread practice of smuggling of cigarettes and others.

In addition, drug finds, including an illegal marijuana supply and forbidden tablets, were found. A particularly worrying find was a batch of "potency honey", a product that is not approved in Germany that contains a prescription substance. The discoveries show the complexity and the risks associated with returning from vacation.

hidden souvenirs and uncovering by customs

Interestingly, many of the finds were by no means well hidden. Some travelers seem to feel safe that they do not bring anything illegal into the country, while others try to keep their illegal souvenirs hidden in double floors of vehicles or in cavities. Customs spokeswoman Sarah Mayer explains that particularly large amounts of cigarettes are often hidden in laundry or other luggage.

The Situation not only has legal, but also financial consequences. 67 criminal proceedings were initiated within almost two weeks, mainly due to tax evasion and violations of the Weapons and Narcotics Act. In addition, security benefits of almost 20,000 euros were collected for the expected fines. Imagine that the souvenir from vacation could not only smile, but also bring in a high bill.

The customs controls will continue until September 8th. The main customs office of Ulm has increased the number of customs officers to monitor this return travel, which underlines the importance of controls. Once more, it becomes clear how important it is to be clear about the customs regulations and free limits in order to avoid unpleasant surprises. Particular attention should be paid to goods that are above the specified free quantities.
