Ahrtalbahn under power: Trees have to give way for electrification!
in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, massive tree felling cause excitement. To electrify the Ahrtalbahn, numerous trees on the railway embankment along the district administration must give way. Resident Bernd Geschier is horrified and complains about the loss of the trees in front of his house. A spokesman for the railway confirmed that the clearing is necessary to advance the project. Many citizens are disappointed and do not understand why nature has to be sacrificed to modernize the rail infrastructure.
The interference in the green environment meets resistance, since the trees are not only important for the landscape, but also serve as a habitat for animals. The discussion about the benefits of forced distances is getting louder. Further information is in a recent article on www.rhein-zeitung.de
