Woman threatens women: Welthungerhilfe raises the alarm!

According to alarming new knowledge of Welthungerhilfe, 733 million people worldwide are affected by hunger, while progress in the fight against hunger has stalled. Women and girls in particular suffer disproportionately from the consequences. The recently presented world hunger index shows that Africa in particular have the hardest hunger rates south of the Sahara and South Asia. "It is unacceptable that the global community does not meet sufficiently," said Marlehn Thieme, President of Welthungerhilfe.

A total of 136 countries were examined with regard to their nutritional situation, and it turned out that hunger has increased in 22 countries, while there are hardly any progress in 20 other countries. The situation in Burundi, Yemen, Madagascar, Somalia, South Sudan and Chad, where hunger is classified as very serious. Despite the dark numbers, there are also bright spots: countries such as Bangladesh and Mozambique have significantly improved their values, even if hunger remains an urgent problem there.
