Fatal accident at Petersdorf: Was it an illegal car race?
On the night of Sunday, a tragic accident occurred on the state road in 2035 near Petersdorf (district of Aichach-Friedberg), in which a 23-year-old passenger died and the 19-year-old driver was seriously injured to the University Hospital Augsburg. The police suspect that an illegal street race preceded the accident. The driver had lost control of his vehicle in an elongated left turn and crashed into a tree. The car caught fire before the emergency services arrived.
The investigation by the Aichach police inspection and the Augsburg public prosecutor's office focus on suspicion of a forbidden race. A friend of the driver, who was also on the road at high speed, could be involved in this incident, since both vehicles had recently overtaken a motorhome. The exact circumstances of the accident are still unclear and numerous witnesses are to be asked about clarification. An expert opinion on the incident is currently being commissioned and should be in existence in about four weeks, while the question of alcohol or drug use remains open.
