Heroldstatt perceives the last chance to expand the area in the BSA!
Heroldstatt has decided: With a narrow majority, the municipal council agreed to bring large areas to the Biosphere region of Schwäbische Alb (BSA). This decision is historical, because Heroldstatt is one of the last municipalities that has the opportunity to attach areas in this context before the area grows from around 85,000 to 121,000 hectares. The BSA's board of directors emphasizes that this is the last chance for further extensions.
Despite the positive view, there were also concerns among the council members. Questions about the voluntariness of membership and possible restrictions on agriculture by EU regulations were raised. District Administrator Heiner Scheffold made it clear that the EU requirements have not apply specifically to biosphere areas in recent years. The decision finally fell with 6 to 5 votes, which underlines the importance of this decision for the community. The Schultes Michael Weber expressed: "If it is also a tight decision, it is also a democratic one." Further details on the topic can be found in the report
