Fight for survival: Berlin brand UVR before the end!

In Berlin is an iconic fashion company, UVR Berlin, on the edge of the abyss. The brand, which has been rooted in the capital for over 32 years, has been fighting bankruptcy since November 2023. Managing Director Anna Schieber reports that the economic pressure after the corona crisis and the increased costs have put the company into an existential crisis. "We had a thick corona loan because we had to continue to pay our rents. In 2022/23, sales fell and prices rose," she explains. This led to the fact that a second shop in Kreuzberg and a branch in Hanover had to be closed, reports Berlin Live .

Now the fate of the brand hangs on a thread. To get from bankruptcy, UVR urgently needs fresh capital until mid -January. An originally found investor withdrew at short free time, which praised the employees to launch the campaign "indispensable". So far, they have been able to collect almost 10,000 euros, but "time we run away," warns Schieber. If the second half of the necessary money does not come together in good time, the company, which operates four shops in Berlin, could close by the end of March, which would be a significant loss for the local fashion world.

made in Berlin with fair conditions

What makes UVR Berlin special is the close connection to your production process. All designs are designed in the Berlin studio in Kreuzberg and manufactured in European factories under fair conditions. While the jerseys and sweatshirts are produced in Portugal, the knitting goods come from Italy and the pants and coats from Poland. The company philosophy of fair trade is reflected in the products, as uvr-berlin.de . Sleber is optimistic: "I think that an upswing will come again afterwards." Until then, UVR remains dependent on the support of your community to continue your tradition in Berlin.
