Ecological dismantling: Karolinenhof village pond gets new life!
In the picturesque Karolinenhof there is a comprehensive renovation of the village pond! From the 1st quarter of 2025, the district office Treptow-Köpenick will begin with a targeted project to ecologically upgrade the water. The aim is to secure the biodiversity and to reduce organic sludge drastically, which is already urgently necessary - the mud thickness is 0.88 meters on average and even reaches up to 1.45 meters. To this end, the innovative ventilation system is used in the water, which is to bring oxygen into the water for years and thus improve the environmental conditions, as emphasized. The project already takes into account a species protection report that contains important information for future planning. A tender for the renovation should take place by the end of March, while the actual renovation work is expected to only take one to two months.
The total costs for the measures are estimated at around 1.5 to 1.7 million euros, with more detailed information only announced in the further course of the planning process. In this project, environmental protection and ecological restoration are top priority, which underlines the importance of the planned efforts.
