New Year's Eve in Berlin: Violence and injured - police take stock!

The New Year's Eve 2024/2025 was a major challenge for the police in Berlin and Hanover. Around 3,000 police officers were deployed in Berlin, supported by around 720 forces from the federal police and various federal states. Despite intensive preparations, there were numerous attacks on emergency services, which were mainly attacked with pyrotechnics. A total of 37 police forces were injured in the capital, including an official who had to go to the hospital due to serious injuries. Around midnight, a 14-year-old was seriously injured by improper handling of fireworks, which resulted in a partial ambutation of his hand. In total, the police cited 28 administrative offenses procedure for violations of the fireworks prohibition zone and several procedures for property damage. Despite these incidents, the police in Hanover drew a predominantly positive balance and praised the largely responsible holiday of the citizens.
