Heidelberg: Brutal attack on tourists because of Davidstern-T-shirt
In a shattering attack in Heidelberg, a man physically injured a tourist couple and mocks their symbolism of faith. The incident occurred on September 2 at around 6 p.m. when the vacationer Constanze Q. wore a T-shirt that showed a Davidstern and the slogan "Bring Home Now". This statement is in the context of the current geopolitical conditions and devotes itself to the kidnapped victims of the Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The attacker, identified as Abed Z. (29), attacked Constanze Q. and asked her to take off the T-shirt. During his attack, he slightly injured the woman, and when her husband, Angel, came to help, was brutally hit in the face, which cost him a tooth. The incident occurred in a busy place in Heidelberg, not far from the tourist information, a place that is usually associated with a positive, inviting atmosphere.
the arrest of the attacker
Thanks to an attentive resident who filmed the incident with her cell phone, the police were able to quickly get on the trail of the attacker. These recordings were used to identify Abed Z. The perpetrator then contacted the police in Mannheim and admitted his deed, but refused to provide his whereabouts. The investigation caused a police patrol finally track him down and arrested him in Ludwigshafen.
Abed Z. is according to the police of German nationality and already had a criminal record, but not yet in connection with politically motivated acts of violence. At the first date of the court, an arrest warrant was issued against him, which, however, was set out of enforcement under the edition of a 10,000 euro deposit. Since he was unable to raise this deposit, he was temporarily detained.
reactions to violence
The incident caused great concern in Heidelberg and beyond. Angel Q. commented in an interview with the SWR about the events, described the brutal attack and the physical consequences that violence had for him. His first goal is to help his wife before such injustice, and he is determined to experience justice.
The Anti-Semitism representative of Baden-Württemberg, Dr. Michael Blume, pointed out that such incidents that the left, rights and Islamist currents combine in anti -Semitism are a growing problem in university cities. Interior Minister Thomas Strobl emphasized the need to counter anti -Semitism with all determination and to publicly confront his ugly face.
The situation illustrates the deep, social trenches and the existing tensions in today's world. Such extreme attacks are in a worrying connection with the growing movements against anti -Semitism and make it clear that more has to be done to reduce prejudices and to promote the values of tolerance and understanding.
