Flexibility and economy: Negotiations on changes in the voluntary collective agreement encounter interest
second round of negotiations between BDZV and DJU in ver.di
The second round of negotiations between the Federal Association of Digital Publisher and Newspaper Publishers (BDZV) and representatives of the DJU in ver.di took place yesterday in Frankfurt am Main. The conversations were mainly about salary increases and changes in the voluntary collective agreement.
The negotiator of the BDZV, Georg Wallraf, emphasized the importance of a more flexible and economic regulation when looking at the professional season and the calculation of the years of work. Wallraf mentioned that a salary increase must be generated by the publishing companies.
The ideas of the BDZV to change the volunteer collective agreement met with interest at the union. The DJU representatives said that these ideas could ideally also be discussed together with the German Journalist Association (DJV) in the sense of tariff care.
However, the BDZV rejected the claims made by the DJU to take into account the use of the use of artificial intelligence in editorial offices. The association argued that the AI tools were still in a development phase and that their uses would constantly change. Collective agreements could hinder the publisher's entrepreneurial decisions and should therefore not be restricted.
In the context of the negotiations, it became clear that both the union and the BDZV are still interested in getting a tariff. The talks will continue in the future and other aspects of tariff care and working conditions in the publishing industry will be discussed.
The negotiations are important for the entire publishing industry and the journalists who are employed in the companies concerned. Both salary increases and the adaptation of the volunteer agreement can have an impact on working conditions in the industry. The rejecting attitude of the BDZV compared to the collective bargaining into account of the use of artificial intelligence shows that this aspect takes up increasing relevance in the media landscape and will be the focus of further discussions.
