Audis E-Tron GT is taken from China: Disappointing sales figures and strategic change of course
Audi pulls the ripcord-e-tron GT sports car from the Chinese market
The highly acclaimed electric car e-tron GT from Audi has posted in China not reached the desired paragraph. This has prompted the car manufacturer to make a drastic decision and to stop selling the electric sports car. This step marks a significant change of course in Audi's strategy on the Chinese market.
originally advertised as the "spearhead of electromobility", the four-seater Audi E-Tron GT could not meet the expectations in China. Despite its impressive performance and speed, only 188 copies were sold, which led to the decision to take the model out of the range.
In order to compensate for the disappointing sales figures of the e-tron GT, Audi will now focus on other electric models such as the Q6 e-tron and the A6 e-tron, which are specially produced for the Chinese market in the new Audi plant in Changchun. In contrast to the e-tron GT, the Porsche counterpart Taycan in China seems to sell well, which illustrates diversity and preferences in the Chinese market.
This step also raises the question of how many Audi vehicles exports to China. Compared to other foreign car manufacturers, the Maternage Volkswagen in China is still a leader. While VW sold 3.24 million vehicles in China, 3.1 million come from local production. This illustrates the importance of local partnerships and production for the Chinese market.
It remains to be seen how Audi's strategy will develop in China and whether the focus will bring the desired success on other electric models. The decision to take the e-tron GT from the market illustrates the challenges that car manufacturers face in the Chinese market.
