Disaster protection exercise Magnitude 2024: Worldwide teams train emergency!
From October 24th to 26th, 2024, the large-scale disaster protection exercise "Magnitude 2024" takes place in Baden-Württemberg, in which international authorities and organizations work together in an emergency. Directed by a fictitious earthquake with a thickness of 6.9, the emergency services must mount over 500 missing and injured people and ensure the care. Minister Thomas Strobl emphasized that the exercise provides important findings for the cooperation of the EU in civil protection and the unthinkable is practiced.
Around 950 people, including international teams from France, Austria, Greece and Switzerland, are involved, supported by 150 vehicles, 15 dogs and two helicopters. This exercise is not only focused on the immediate rescue, but also trains the handling of chemical and nuclear dangers and the support of vulnerable groups.
