Kitz rescue Baden-Baden 2024: Successful conclusion with 126 rescued shines

New drone technology supports the Kitzreettung in Baden Jäger Rastatt and Baden-Baden

This year the Kitz rescue of Baden Jäger Rastatt and Baden-Baden was successfully completed. A total of 126 fawns could be saved, so that they can now safely roam the forests and fields with their mothers without being endangered by the mowing.

The spring 2024 was characterized by heavy rainfall that led to many meadows flooded and that farmers had difficulty using their tractors. As a result, mowing the grass for the biogas plants or the silage in May and June was almost impossible. Compared to the previous year, in which 490 fawns were saved, there were fewer missions this year due to the unstable weather.

The Kitz rescue of Baden Jäger Rastatt and Baden-Baden has existed for four years and continuously invests in the investment in new drone technology. This technology enables hunters to track down the fawn in front of the mowing and to bring it to safety. The cooperation with the farmers who report their areas for drone flight, as well as the support from donors have made the fawn rescue a success.

The fawn rescue season extends from the end of April to mid -July, with the time of the deer around May 20th. The fawns are set in a period of about ten days before and after this date before they can flee alone in front of the mower. A Kitzreettung day begins early in the morning and requires precise planning and preparation to secure the animals safely.

The use of thermal drones in the fawn is a technological development that benefits animal welfare and enables hunters to act more efficiently and targeted.

The Baden hunters Rastatt and Baden-Baden show with their commitment and investment in modern technology how important the protection of wild animals is for the community. Through their work, they help to maintain the population of the deer and to strengthen the awareness of the protection of nature.
