In a dramatic call for immediate financial support, the district councilors in Bruchsal demanded that the state of Baden-Württemberg finally assume its responsibility for the refugee costs. "The municipalities are on the financial abyss," said Joachim Walter, President of the District Council, during the 42nd district assembly. Despite an immediate aid package for 2024, Walter is disappointed with the lack of a long -term solution beyond 2024. Without sufficient support from the country, right -wing forces in the municipal councils and district days could strengthen, he warns.

Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann confessed that the municipalities reach their limits. While progress in regulating the number of refugees is recognizable, the district council is pushing for a comprehensive turn in migration policy and criticizes the contract to assume costs. The recently decided hospital reform also met with resistance - it does not resolve the structural financing problems and could massively deteriorate patient care.
