New fraud: lost so much money by fake QR codes!

A hotel visitor in Baden-Baden was the victim of a perfidious QR code fraud on Wednesday evening. After she wanted to park her car on the market square and paid the parking fee via a QR code at the machine, she later noticed an unauthorized debit of 2,000 euros on her account. During a new review, it turned out that the legitimate QR code was replaced by a manipulated codes.

Police investigations revealed that fake QR codes were also glued on at at least two other parking machines in Friedhofstrasse and at the “Alte Bahnhof”. So far, it remains unclear whether there have been further financial damage. The police urgently warn of such fraud stitches and advises to always check QR codes carefully before scanning them, especially if payment information is to be entered. The investigation continues.
