Earthquake exercise Magnitude: Disaster protection scores in BW!

A spectacular finale for the large -scale earthquake exercise "Magnitude"! For over 36 hours, almost 1,000 emergency services fought at several locations in Baden-Württemberg with a simulated quake of the strength 6.9 on the Richter scale. The balance? A complete success! Interior Minister Thomas Strobl praised the international cooperation and that all participants remained intact. "We learned to identify mistakes and improve ourselves," he said satisfied.

The exercise included impressive scenarios: human rescues from ruins in a former barracks area, a ship accident in the Hafen harbor and the evacuation of a dormitory for people with disabilities. A total of 23,000 liters of drinking water were prepared, while 2,000 tons of scree were transported to the exercise locations. The assignment cost around 1.36 million euros, partly with financing from Brussels. This exercise not only demonstrated EU disaster protection, but also the commitment of numerous volunteers. Details and projections for large -scale use are now evaluated by experts in order to master the upcoming challenges even better. You can find out more in an article on www.swr.de .
