Sternenbäck closes: Is the end of 34 branches in Baden-Württemberg?

The traditional Starbäck bakery closes its production site in Hechingen at the end of the year, which questions the future of its 34 branches in Baden-Württemberg. The company, which was founded in 1766 and employed around 1,000 people across Germany, had originally announced a renovation procedure in self -administration in May to continue business. In a new message, Sternenbäck Management GmbH clarified that the location in Hechingen will only be open until the end of the year. The branches in the region are dependent on production in Hechingen, and it remains unclear whether they can be supplied by the production locations in Thuringia or Brandenburg should actually close Hechingen.

The closure is part of a larger pattern in Baden-Württemberg, where several bakery chains have stumbled due to rising costs for raw materials, energy and staff. Sternenbäck cited these factors as the main cause of the difficult situation of the company. The message stated that the bakery should be aligned with the self -administration procedure on the market needs. This could not only endanger jobs, but also to end over 250 years of baking tradition in the region, since the company's focus may be relocated to East Germany in the future. Source: www.merkur.de
