Storm warning in Baden-Württemberg: Thunderstorms and heavy rain threaten
A violent storm awaits Baden-Württemberg next week, which will be accompanied by record-breaking heavy rain. The German Weather Service (DWD) has published alarming forecasts and recommended that you adjust to extreme weather conditions. Thursday in particular could lead to locally devastating thunderstorms that will affect the south and the middle of the country.
On the evening of September 5, storm warnings of level 3 were pronounced for several counties in Baden-Württemberg. Böblingen, Calw, Freudenstadt, Rottweil, Tübingen, the Zollernalbkreis and the Ortenaukreis are among others. The dangerous weather is favored by a combination of warm air and unstable atmosphere that flows from the southwest of the country.
Current warning of heavy rain and hail
According to the predictions of the DWD, citizens have to adjust to extremely violent heavy rain, which could reach up to 60 liters per square meter in a short time. In addition, stormy gusts with speeds up to 70 km/h and hail with a size of up to two centimeters can be expected. Especially in the regions from Upper Swabia to the northern Black Forest, intensive rains are expected that can last for several hours.
The weather was initially with local fog on Thursday, but dark storm clouds opened during the day. From the afternoon and into the night there will be a significant increase in thunderstorm activity. The DWD warns that the severe storms could last until late at night and advises the citizens to pay attention to the weather reporting and take appropriate precautions.
preparation for the storm front
The prediction shows that the day begins with a cheerful to cloudy weather, but will quickly raise storms. The change in the weather is connected to a low pressure area that moves from France to southwestern Germany. On its flank, hot but also unstable air flows to Baden-Württemberg. This could further increase the intensity of the thunderstorms.
During the storm, the southern regions are initially affected by the thunderstorms. In the further course, the storm fronts spread to the middle of the country. People in the affected area are asked to caution, especially with regard to the possibility of floods and other weather -related dangers.
The risk of thunderstorms and heavy rain remains in the night of Friday. Although the weather situation is supposed to let up at some point, there is still the possibility for considerable amounts of rain of up to 50 liters per square meter in isolated areas. According to the DWD, the weather situation is only defused again in the morning, which is why the population is asked to be careful and take protective measures.
