Ban of entrance for Bamberger Muna: Danger Discovered by ordnance!
The city of Bamberg has imposed a strict ban on entering the area of the former Army ammunition, known as Muna. This decision is based on an alarming report by the Federal Real Estate Agency (BIMA), which shows a significantly higher impact on ordnance than expected. Mayor Andreas Starke emphasizes that the safety of people comes first. The blocking affects an approximately 270 hectare area, whereby entering and driving almost all areas and paths is prohibited, with the exception of a small section on Geischelder Strasse.
The city expects the final report not until the end of 2024 or early 2025, but dangerous explosive devices were already discovered just a few centimeters below the surface. Due to the threat of ordnance, the restricted zone is also extended to adjacent forested areas, which could result in complex measures for removal. Property owners are excluded from the ban, but must ensure their safety themselves. The long-term effects on the planned acquisition of municipal areas through the city remain unclear for the time being. It is also believed that two explosions from the 1940s are responsible for the distribution of the ordnance. Further details can are read here .
