Archdiocese Bamberg bends: controversial pastor is left out!
Bamberg, Deutschland - The Archdiocese of Bamberg has given up its controversial plans to use a former pastor who sexually abused a young person for church services. The decision follows massive public outrage and severe concerns from victim representatives and the local community. The pastor, who had had an "intimate relationship" with a boy at the time in the late 1980s to early 1990s for years, had already been asked in September 2022 not to perform priestly services.
After a storm of indignation, Archbishop Herwig Gössl has convinced the clergymen to continue to do without pastoral activities. The pastor agreed on October 24, 2024 so as not to further deepen existing tensions within the municipalities. The Vicar General Kestel will inform the affected communities on Sunday, October 27, 2024. The Archdiocese emphasizes that the consultations about this turn have been ongoing for weeks and that it was not motivated by the intervention of the advisory board.
