City cycles Bamberg 2024: Broken records, climate protection strengthened!

44 times around the world: a great success for climate protection

The cyclists in the city and district of Bamberg have once again managed to achieve an impressive result in the city bike competition. From June 10th to 30th, a total of 8,765 participants took part and covered the bike over 1.76 million kilometers. This corresponds to a route that would lead around the world 44 times, which shows how important climate protection and the promotion of bicycle traffic are.

With a significant increase in participants and kilometers traveled, Mayor Andreas Starke and District Administrator Johann Kalb are happy about the impressive result. A total of 597,360 kilometers were cycled in the city of Bamberg, in the Bamberg district there were even 1,163,795 kilometers.

The active youngsters deserve a special mention, which has shown enormous operational readiness in 21 schools with a total of 242,850 kilometers. These numbers clearly show how important the bike is as a means of transportation and confirm the need to further expand the wheel infrastructure.

In the Bamberg district, a total of 5,787 active cyclists took part, including 22 schools, 52 kindergartens, 41 companies, 18 clubs and 26 administrations. Together they covered 1,163,795 kilometers and thus made an important contribution to climate protection.

The municipalities in the district have also been committed to city bikes. The municipality of Pettstadt in particular stands out at 33 kilometers per inhabitant, followed by Pommersfelden at 25 kilometers per inhabitant and Baunach with 22 kilometers per inhabitant. The Hirschaid market has completely covered the most kilometers at 135,505 kilometers.

In addition to the bicycle competition, accompanying events, such as the bridge tour at the start, the breakfast campaign in Pettstadt, the after -work exit with District Administrator Johann Kalb and the thank -you activity for all participants. The great response and commitment of the participants contributed to the great success of the entire campaign.
