Storch in need: Water guard saves injured bird on the Wiesent

injured stork ensures impressive rescue use of the water guard

Last night at 10:16 p.m. the water guard was called to a spectacular rescue operation to the Wiesent in Ebermannstadt. An injured stork was stuck in the flat water and could no longer free himself on his own. The fire brigade considered it too dangerous to capture the stork on the river bank, which is why the water guard was asked for help.

under the direction of Philipp Utzel, the water rescuers moved out. With the support of the WW FO 91/2 (EBS), three water rescuers each positioned themselves with a inflatable boat and a raft river up and down to prevent the stork. A brave water rescuer took on the task of capturing the stork with a network. Then the bird was brought safely to the other side of the bank.

at 10:50 p.m. the saved stork could be carefully put into a safe cage before it was brought to an veterinary clinic for further care.

Thank you very much to all aid organizations involved and to the citizens who would have been available to support in the event of an emergency. The smooth cooperation between the water guard, the fire brigade and the police has made this effort into success.

The incident again shows the important role that the water guard and other rescue organizations take on in the region to help injured animals and protect natural habitats. Every rescued stork is a valuable contribution to the preservation of biodiversity in our area.
