Birgit Großmann: Voice of the rural barnim in the new district council

After the local elections in June 2024, the district council in the Barnim started its work. This new legislative period deals with a variety of topics that affect the region directly, including the educational landscape. In order to better understand the composition and goals of the new MPs, we today present Birgit Großmann from the Linke/Farmersverband faction.

The 51-year-old Birgit Großmann is a original barnimer who is passionate about the interests of her homeland. With a clear commitment to the future of rural areas, she has decided to realize her political goals in local politics. "Making a difference to me is important to me. Only my style was never to complain," says Großmann, who already works in her second parliamentary term in the district council and is also active in other local committees such as the local advisory board and as a community representative.

Birgit Großmann - a strong commitment to home

Großmann represents the farmers' association Barnim e.V. and stratified itself in a body in which not only big parties dominate, but also to gain independent candidates and local voters. Her motivation to political activity comes from the deep conviction that rural areas must be heard more. "It is important to actively represent the concerns of people in rural areas and to reduce bureaucracy," she says.

A central concern of Großmann is the promotion of children and adolescents. This generation will shape decision making in the future, which is why its support and development must be put to the fore. "We have to make sure that the development of the barnim always protects the livelihoods such as water, forest and ground," she describes her priorities.

The preservation of natural beauty and cultural peculiarities in the region is particularly important. "It is a challenge to preserve the rural character and at the same time strive for the necessary development," she says. The peculiarities of the Barnim citizens and the commitment in volunteering give them great joy and are the expression of a lively village community for them.

In her role as a territorial forester, she has a deeper connection to nature and the rural conditions, which also shapes her view in politics. It sees the preservation of the environment as one of the greatest challenges to which the region has to face and is committed to promoting sustainable land use practices.

The district council in the Barnim has the task of representing the interests of the citizens and making decisions that shape the region sustainably. Birgit Großmann is ready to do justice to this responsibility and to make the voices of the people visible in rural areas.
