Bergensee memorial ensemble: Federal funding in the program National Projects of Urban Research

an important step for Barnim

On July 10, 2024, an important milestone for the district of Barnim was reached in relation to the preservation of the archery area and its monument ensemble. Federal Minister of Construction Klara Geywitz informed Mayor Oliver Borchert about the approval of the expert commission on the project to develop the site. This step paves the way for potential funding as part of the National Projects of Urban Construction.

The program, which is supported by the federal government, has been promoting pioneering urban planning projects in Germany since 2014. Particular attention is paid to projects that make the country's history of democracy tangible and promote democracy education. A total of 106 project sketches from 99 municipalities were submitted this year, including the project from Wandlitz. Of these, 17 projects were selected that could receive possible funding, including the project on the Bogenensee.

The expert commission's funding recommendation is considered an important step for the preservation of the archery area. The project not only has local support, but is also part of the preservation of places that enable a critical examination of German history. Especially in times when democratic strength are active, it is of great importance to preserve such monuments and to bring them into a meaningful use.

District Administrator Daniel Kurth emphasized the importance of receiving this area and thanked everyone involved who campaigned for the project. His appeal is aimed at the community to protect such places and to maintain for the future. The protection and reuse of historically significant places such as the Bogensee are an important contribution to the promotion of democracy and the culture of remembrance.

With positive signals from federal circles and the commitment of the local municipality of Wandlitz, the project on the Bogenensee is viewed as an important project that extends far beyond local interests and can make an important contribution to urban development and democracy formation.
