The explorations of Kater Mietzi: A look at his territorial life in Hohenfinow

with the cat tracker on a journey of discovery: Mietzi from Hohenfinow explores his area

The curious looks of Claudia and David Bowitz from Hohenfinow were looking forward to their hangover Mietzi when they decided to register him in the "Crass cats in Brandenburg" campaign. Equipped with a GPS tracker, Mietzi was closely monitored for almost three weeks to uncover his secret life. It was shown that the cat has a loyal heart.

The evaluation of the tracker data showed that Mietzi likes to go on an exploration tour, but is mainly near his house. His territory stretches mainly to the family's farm and the adjacent kusselweg. In doing so, he avoids certain places, like a homestead with a dog that he has apparently involuntarily visited.

Interesting is also Mietzi's orientation on paths and streets. His routes follow almost exactly the course of the L29 and the dirt roads, whereby he rarely crossed the state road. It takes regular excursions to the south and likes to visit meadows, fields and forest lights in the area. He travels between six and seven kilometers every day, which is rather moderate compared to other free-range cats.

Although Mietzi likes to go on an exploration tour, he also treats himself to extensive rest. On average, he rests almost 13 hours a day, which is within the usual sleep requirement of cats. With his cozy pace of just over one kilometer per hour, Mietzi enjoys his forays through nature.

The "blatant cats" action of the MOZ offers the opportunity to explore the behavior of cats more closely and to better understand their preferences and habits. By using trackers, animal owners can gain a deeper insight into the life of their furry friends and enable them to have an exciting adventure.
