Drama for mayoral election in Werneuchen: Who prevails?

Werneuchen, Deutschland - In Werneuchen, the decisive mayoral election is pending! On Sunday, October 13th, over 8,000 eligible voters have the opportunity to choose between the non-party Astrid Hildebrand and the AfD candidate Lars Hübner. The polling stations open their doors from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the tension is close to the grasping!

In the first round of elections on September 22, none of the six candidates was able to achieve the necessary 50 percent of the votes, which leads to this runoff election. Hildebrand led 29.6 percent (1771 votes), while Hübner was just 29.4 percent (1761 votes) behind it. The previous mayor Frank Kulicke had to submit his office after a citizens' decision on June 9, 2024, with almost 73 percent voting for his deselection. The choice is so important that the new mayor will need more than 50 percent of the vote to be elected directly.
