Panketal celebrates volunteering: Mayor recognizes strong community!

On October 18, 2024, around 120 guests gathered in the Panketal town hall for the municipal reception, officially headed by Mayor Maximilian Wonke. In his rousing speech, Wonke looked back on significant developments of the past year, including the laying of the foundation stone for the new primary school on Elbestrasse. Another highlight was the opening of the Walter-Seig-Halle, which, however, was overshadowed by water damage. Urgent measures to remedy damage are already on the agenda.

It was also particularly recognized outstanding personalities who volunteer in Panketal. Ilona Trometer, former disability officer, tirelessly campaigned for the interests of people with disabilities. Sigrid Harder has been politically active for years and has a driving force in the municipal council. Daniela Grübner heads the hedgehog exhaustion station Bernau and saves around 300 hedgehogs every year, while Petra Drescher is dedicated to animal welfare. The Sommerfeldt couple have shaped community life for 15 years and promotes social cohesion in the community with initiatives such as the tree festival. These people are the focus of recognition that was celebrated at the reception and impressively show how important volunteer work is for the community.
