Security dispute around Usedomer pier: Mother complains of falling
In the middle of the summer vacation, a serious incident occurred on the popular pier of Usedom. A two -year -old boy fell off the bridge while his mother jumped after him. This meant that the mother, who was 34 years old at the time and dates from the Barnim district in Brandenburg, now complained to the municipality of Zinnowitz in front of the district court for at least 35,000 euros.
The incident occurred on the evening of July 22, 2021. Accordingly, she planned to take a vacation photo. While she was standing on the railing, the younger boy who was standing next to his brother lost his balance and fell through the railing. The mother emphasizes that her son had not been put on the parapet, which was previously reported in the media.
Details of the injury and the lawsuit
The mother instinctively jumped behind her son and was seriously injured by the left leg, including several fractures, including the ankle. The case is particularly delicate because the bridge there runs about five meters above the water, but according to the police's statements at the time, it should not be deep. Both, the mother and her son, were recovered by rescue workers and brought to a clinic.
In her complaint, the mother argues that the pier is not safe enough and the railing urgently needed to be designed differently to prevent similar incidents. In addition to the 35,000 euros required for the injustice suffered, it also lists further costs of over 2,000 euros that were required for medication, orthopedic aids and domestic help. In addition, she wants financial security in the event that her health situation deteriorates.
On the other hand, the municipality of Zinnowitz claims that the bridge is properly constructed and therefore there are no security deficiencies. She is of the opinion that the mother wears a complicity in the incident because she would have had to take care of her children better. Her injury shouldn't have been so serious if she had actually climbed over the railing instead of jumping directly.
The process continues to be pursued tense, and a judicial decision is expected at a later date, as is common in civil proceedings.
