Historical heritage: Schlemmer Foundation brings Christmas joy to Bautzen!
Bautzen, Deutschland - An important piece of Bautzen's history from the late 19th century has found his home in the city archive! The mate foundation handed over nine original billing books, which once belonged to the master Riemer Johann Georg Schlemmer, who died childlessly. Schlemmer had left a generous sum for charitable projects in Bautzen. Already during his lifetime he supported a children's work institution with 337 marks and ensured that needy day laborers from his foundation were considered for Christmas every year, with Schlemmer specifically in view of the poorest of the poor.
However, the special conditions of his foundation excluded retired civil servants and self -inflicted impoverished. The accounting books that offer rich insights into the social conditions of that time were accepted on September 21, 2024 by the Mayor Karsten Vogt in the town hall. Thanks to the mate foundation, the inheritance of this philanthropical entrepreneur will now be accessible to future generations in the archive, as www.baustzen.de reports .
