Bavaria remains true to auto fans: survey shows travel habits 2023

A current survey shows that despite increased discussions about climate change, the car is still the preferred means of transport for the vacation trip of many Bavaria. According to the survey of the opinion research institute Civey, which was carried out on behalf of the energy company Eon, 52 percent of the respondents plan a trip in summer, and 55 percent of them, to drive with a burner car. This shows that the cultural habits and preferences in relation to trips are also strongly anchored in times of climate change.

Transport means and travel destinations of Bavaria

The survey, which was carried out in May and June among around 5000 adults in Germany, also shows that the aircraft follows in second place with 24 percent, while the railway is only chosen by 8 percent of those surveyed. These figures make it clear that the automobile also plays a central role in vacation planning, while alternative transport is less preferred. Nevertheless, the data also shows that more than a third of the Bavarian participants are planning to travel to other European countries, with Italy being the most popular goal at 36 percent.

Sustainability awareness of vacationers grows

On the other hand, there is also a positive trend towards more sustainability in the survey. Over 13 percent of Bavarian holidaymakers stated that they wanted to avoid future air travel, and just as many want to use the train in the future. This increasing desire for more environmentally conscious travel options could be an indication that the pressure to change in mobility behavior is slowly becoming. The perception of sustainable trips can change fundamentally in the context of the increasing climate crisis.

FAZIT

The survey results make it clear that the automotive still plays a dominant role in Bavaria's travel habits. Nevertheless, a rethink in relation to sustainable holiday options seems to be underway. How these developments will influence the travel industry in the future remains to be seen, but the balance between convenience and environmental awareness will surely be a central topic of the next few years.
