Bavaria has so far remained untouched: health risk minimal

No health risk from tiger mosquitoes in Bavaria

The tiger mosquito, which has been brought in from Asia, has not yet caused any health problems in Bavaria. The State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) confirmed that the tiger mosquito in 13 circles and independent cities in the entire Free State was demonstrated from Würzburg in Lower Franconia to Oberallgäu. So far, no pathogens have been transferred through the mosquitoes, which classifies the health risk as low.

Bayern's Minister of Health Judith Gerlach (CSU) emphasized that due to climate change, the freedom could also occur more in the Free State that could potentially transmit tropical and subtropical diseases. This year, 26 traps have already been set up at four locations - Nuremberg, Fürth, Memmingen and district of Rosenheim - to monitor the spread of the mosquitoes. More and more cities and counties are joining the Bavaria -wide mosquito monitoring or operating their own surveillance programs.

In order to keep the effects of climate change on the citizens as low as possible, it is important to consistently take action against the spread of the tiger mosquito, according to the LGl. It was pointed out that future disease transfers could not be excluded. In Asia, for example, stings of the tiger mosquito can trigger dangerous dengue fever. The population was called on to avoid water accumulation outdoors to reduce the breeding grounds of the mosquitoes.

To help monitoring and take suitable countermeasures, suspicious-looking mosquitoes can be sent to the LGL location in Oberschleißheim. It is advisable to be attentive and take measures to combat the tiger mosquito at an early stage in order to minimize possible health risks.
