Ex-hurricane Kirk brings Bavaria's cities to a standstill-no injuries!
A huge storm, the former hurricane Kirk, hit Bavaria with gusts over 100 km/h! In Würzburg, the winds raged with a top force of 105.5 km/h, followed by similar speeds in the Rhön and the Prealps. The emergency services were required: 30 weather -related emergencies were registered in Würzburg, while the integrated Nuremberg control center recorded around 200 emergency calls and 80 missions. Fortunately, injured people failed to materialize, despite fallen trees that damaged vehicles and power lines.
The German Weather Service (DWD) reported that the worst thing was over at noon, but there were warnings of gusts in the Alps and in the Bavarian Forest until evening. The train had to struggle with fallen trees on the tracks, and the zoo in Augsburg was closed due to the storm warning. After the storm had decreased, the DWD announced rain showers and even the first light snow of winter, while the nights in Upper Franconia could drop up to -1 degrees.
