Firefighters enthusiastic about action-packed exercise days in Traunstein
in Traunstein, Bavaria, an exciting event for the region's youth fire brigades recently took place. On Friday, August 16, the youngsters 2024 started with a varied program for the participants. The youth attendance had come up with a lot, including both educational exercises and entertaining games that were appealing for all age groups. The highlight of the day, a water battle, ensured that many young people were completely soaked in the evening, but still returned happily and enthusiastically.
"With these events we show how modern youth work can look like," said Katrin Geisreiter, youth manager from Hochberg. The mix of joy and training was a welcome change for the young people. Over 50 young firefighting teams had gathered in the fire station in Scheibenstrasse to immerse yourself directly in the practical exercises. Here they were divided into mixed groups, which also promoted new friendships and contacts among the participants.
practical exercises and team games
In the first round of exercise, the participants had to master different deployment scenarios. For example, some of the covered stream bed saved, while others worked on a person search near Hütt. These practical exercises were always accompanied by experienced trainers, who then gave the young people valuable feedback. The focus was not only on the technical aspect, but also on teamwork and cooperation.
In addition, there was a special mini golf course, which was made of fire-fighting equipment, and a technical challenge in which a table had to be moved without the bottles on it. These exciting games provided a lot of laughter and relaxation after the intensive exercises. Sporty active people were also not neglected and were able to let off steam at football and badmintol games, while others took it easy in the shady corner on a slush ice cream.
sweating to the water battle
The heated temperatures and the physically exhausting work inevitably led to the interest in fire extinguishing during the last exercise. This finally culminated in an entertaining water battle, in which almost nobody stayed dry. "It was a wonderful way to end the day," reported Markus Kempf, youth keeper of the Wolkersdorf fire brigade. This spontaneous campaign created an excellent mood among the young people and was further proof of the successful cohesion.
The first day ended with a common “Spaghetti Essen”, an opportunity for everyone to review the day and laugh together. The following Saturday we went on to Inzell, where the group was able to spend a sporty day in Soccer Park. Here the young people competed against each other in small groups to get the ball into the goal with as few shots as possible. The fun and joy of the past few days culminated here, and the experiences of the joint game will probably be remembered for a long time.
A look into the future of the youth fire brigades
The Traunsteiner Young Talent Days not only strengthened the skills of the young people, but also promoted the team spirit. The positive feedback from those responsible and young people confirm that such events are important to inspire the next generation of firefighters. Experiences from combinations of learning and playing make the young fire brigade not only fitter for emergencies, but also for life outside of the uniform - by making friendships and creating common memories.
The importance of fire service youth work
Working with the fire brigade youth plays a central role in training and promoting young people. It not only conveys important skills in the field of fire service, but also promotes team spirit and a sense of responsibility. Such programs are organized in many cities and municipalities to inspire young people for the challenges of the fire brigade and later to integrate them into the active ranks of the fire brigade. The fire brigade youth offers a valuable platform for personal development, which has a positive shape many young people.
In addition, the fire brigade youth strengthen the community within the various local fire brigades. The exchange between young people from different regions not only leads to new friendships, but also to a better understanding of the challenges that firefighters meet every day. These social aspects are just as important as the technical training.
The young people not only acquire technical skills, but also soft skills such as communication, problem -solving skills and the ability to work under pressure. These skills are not only in fire service, but also in everyday life.
Current developments in the fire brigade youth
youth fire brigades in Germany
In Germany, the number of youth fire brigades has increased continuously in recent years. According to the German youth fire brigade, around 86,000 young people in youth fire brigades were active in 2022. This shows the increasing interest of young people in fire service and the associated social tasks.
The youth fire brigades not only offer practical exercises in fire fighting and rescue techniques, but also a diverse leisure program that promotes personal development and at the same time includes training in first aid and disaster protection.
A particularly lively example of the positive development in this area are regional competitions that take place regularly and in which the young people can demonstrate their skills. These competitions promote ambition and comradely cohesion. Here, a focus is not only on performance, but also on the joy and the fun of working together.
In addition, many youth fire brigades have started to integrate modern technologies into their training programs. For example, digital media are used to convey important information and to better achieve young people. Such innovative approaches offer a contemporary way of arousing young people's interests and further developing their skills.
The high event density and the support from the local fire brigade associations are fundamental cornerstones for successful work with young people in the fire brigade. Cooperation projects with schools and kindergartens also show how important the commitment in community work is and contribute to the awareness of fire issues.
Health and safety of the fire brigade candidates
An essential element in the training of the fire brigade youth is the health and safety of the participants. The events are carefully planned to take into account both the physical and the psychological requirements of the fire service. Regular feedback talks such as in the Traunstein example are an important part of this process and help to reflect on the experiences of the young people and to ensure their safety.
The training at the fire brigade aims to ensure both the security of the fire brigade applicants and the general public. This is done through the use of experienced instructors who not only convey technical skills, but also security protocols and preventive measures. The implementation of exercises under realistic conditions, such as the simulated rescue, is part of this training approach and offers the participants valuable practical experience.
By combining playful and serious forms of training, it is ensured that the participants develop the necessary competence in order to be able to act effectively in an emergency. This not only promotes the safety of young people, but also strengthens their self -confidence and their ability to work in challenging situations.
The fire brigade youth is therefore not only a place of training, but also a community that prepares the next generations of firefighters for the diverse challenges of their tasks and makes a valuable contribution to society.
