Marklkofen relies on the future: Citizens choose a huge wind turbine!
In a crucial citizens' decision, the majority of the election citizens of the municipality of Marklkofen in Lower Bavaria voted on Sunday for the construction of a gigantic wind turbine to generate electricity. Over 67 percent of the votes were for the approximately 250 meter high wind turbine, which is to be built on the site of a brick factory. The turnout was almost 60 percent. Mayor Peter Rauscher (CSU) was relieved after the vote and explained: "Our citizens have chosen the future."
The wind turbine is supposed to help the Gima brick factory to cover around half of its high energy requirement climate -neutral and inexpensive. Company boss Claus Girnghuber emphasized the need to remain competitive: "We have to become climate -neutral and see the only alternative in wind power." Despite the clear result, the opponents of the wind turbine respect the vote of the voters and emphasize that the high turnout shows how much the population is concerned about the topic. The opponents had criticized the construction of the wind turbine for possible impairments for the landscape.
