Renting in Bavaria are rising rapidly: Students and tenants desperate!

München, Deutschland - tenants in Bavaria are still facing with rapidly increasing prices. According to the real estate association Germany, the average rents for existing apartments for new rentals increased by five percent to EUR 12.70 per square meter within one year. In Munich, where it is already expensive, prices explode even faster: here rents climbed 8.7 percent to an incredible 21.20 euros per square meter. Market researcher Stephan Kippes explains that the high interest rate for purchase properties drives many potential buyers into rents, which also heats up demand in the rental market.

The Situation is tightened by a lack of new buildings. Despite government funding measures, there is still little exercise in housing construction. The result is that students in Bavaria in particular get into a precarious situation. With an average of almost 800 euros for a shared apartment in Munich, many academics often have to do without an affordable apartment or accept long shuttle routes. The Bavarian State Student Council urgently demands more support from the Free State to defuse the situation. Details on this dramatic development can be found at www.br.de
