Walter Altmann: A life full of inventions - the Globumat exhibition in Berlin
an ingenious inventor and his moving life: the exhibition "Globumat. Inventions of a survival fabric" in the Museum Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf
The Museum Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf will present a fascinating exhibition entitled "Globumat. Inventions of a survival fabric" from July 5, 2024. This exhibition is dedicated to the life path and the inventions of Walter Altmann, an ingenious inventor.
The focus of this presentation is the Globumat, a advertising apparatus that Walter Altmann was invited and patented in the 1930s. Although it is unclear whether his device has ever been perceived by a wide audience, the globumat today shows the effects of big city life in Berlin during the Weimar Republic.
Walter Altmann was a tailor from Berlin who worked on the construction of everyday objects all his life. However, his inventions were not honored by the National Socialists because Altmann was Jew. In his moving report, he documented his experiences during the persecution, exile and his detention in concentration camps.
Thanks to a cooperation with the Berlin University of Applied Sciences, the Globumat was restored and is now being presented to the public for the first time. This exhibition is not only a tribute to Walter Altmann's inventory, but also a testimony to survival in difficult times.
The Globumat and the history of his inventor are at the center of interest in the Museum Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. Visitors have the opportunity to discover the fascinating life and work of Walter Altmann and to learn more about the creative and technical innovative strength of past times.
The exhibition "Globumat. Inventions of a survival stamp" is a must for all those interested in history and technology and offers a unique insight into the life of an extraordinary inventor.
