Wonderful creative projects: Students protect birds from glass collisions!
Students of the special education center Freising impressed with their commitment to bird protection: After they increasingly discovered dead birds at the glass facades of their school, they took the matter into their own hands. Together with the district office and the LBV (Landesbund for Bird and Nature Conservation in Bavaria), they implemented creative solutions and have now received a certificate for this. This initiative not only included tinkering with old materials to hold birds, but also the use of a special film that previously protects over 200 square meters of glass surfaces.
Peter Vocolors, head of the LBV project to reduce bird strike, confirmed the success of the measures: The new film has an impressive effectiveness of 95 percent against collisions. In addition, dead birds were recorded as part of a monitoring program that is supervised by LBV students to find a long-term solution. The students were actively involved in the discussion and brought up the topic in their school newspaper. Now striking stickers with the reference "Safe for birds" adorn the school's windows and illustrate the success of the joint project, as in an article by www.merkur.de reported.
