In Bayreuth, the warnings of fraudulent front door shops are increasing, in which criminal energy service providers pretend to be employees of the municipal utility company. These false representatives ring on the doors, specify the meter readings read and lure with supposedly attractive electricity and gas offers. "They pretend our trust and thus obtain data that can trigger an undesirable change of supplier," explains Michael Schuhmann, sales manager of Stadtwerke Bayreuth. Affected people who have already contacted the municipal utility are only the tip of the iceberg.

The municipal utilities emphasize that they do not do a front door shop and advise the citizens to be suspicious. "Real employees have an ID and usually do not work on the front door," emphasizes Schuhmann. Anyone who is still fell into the trap: There is a cancellation period of 14 days in order to withdraw from the contract without giving reasons.
