Rally World Cup in Passau: High voltage at the grand finale in the border triangle!
On Sunday, the Central European Rally (CER) ends in the border triangle with an exciting finale, while thousands of fans flock to the award ceremony at Passau Rathausplatz. The Frenchman Sébastien Ogier is in the lead in the special tests, followed by Ott Tänak from Estonia and Elfyn Evans from Great Britain. The current world champion, Thierry Neuville from Belgium, takes fourth place. According to rally spokesman Stefan Dorner, the decision on the world championship title will probably only be made in the last run in Japan, which will take place from November 21 to 24. However, the 54 remaining kilometers could cause surprises without any noticeable accidents.
The police warn of an increased traffic volume in the affected communities, especially in Jandelsbrunn, Neureichenau and Breitenberg, where the streets between Breitenberg and Passau could be clogged in the afternoon. The suspension bridge and the Fritz Schäffer promenade are closed during the award ceremony from 3 p.m. In Bad Griesbach, where the paddock is set up, 15,000 spectators were already counted from Thursday to Saturday. Despite the predominant positive response, there is also resistance. Local residents in Passau protest with posters against the rally, while signatures for a state parliament spetition against the approval of rally in the Bavarian Forest are collected.
